Viyonce Mabena (30) originally from Duduza and currently residing in Tembisa North, joined the Youth Health Africa internship programme in December 2020 after finding out about it from Aurum POP INN at Winne Mandela Clinic. As a transgender woman, Viyonce is a proud member of the LGBTIQA+ community and has a passion for serving her community through ensuring people know their HIV status and take the correct preventative measures. During her internship, her duties included assisting the project coordinator with administration duties such as the flow of the project and narrative reports. When she was on-site during community projects her duties were to assist clinicians with administration such as filling lab forms, ART stationery, PRep stationery and taking their vitals and weight. As a newly appointed data capturer in Aurum POP INN, Viyonce is currently responsible for administration, HIV counselling and testing, index testing services and data entry. Her advice to the unemployed youth is that they must never lose hope and always try to better their skills each time. Viyonce was a volunteer for four years and is now thankful to herself for not giving up on her LGBTIQA+ community.
